Outreach & Education
The Outreach & Education Coordinator works to help Low Income Energy Assistance (LIEAP) households make their homes warmer, keep their energy costs down and ultimately stretch their income further. Those who qualify for LIEAP often struggle to make ends meet and are faced with decisions such as choosing between necessities such as food, prescriptions or rent rather than paying the heat bill.
LIEAP benefits are a supplement only and rarely cover the entire energy costs during the heating season. This position educates LIEAP recipients on the importance of making regular monthly payments to their heat vendor to avoid shut offs and making efforts to conserve energy and their energy costs.
The Outreach & Education Coordinator provides energy conservation education, explains the purposes of all RMDC’s Energy Assistance programs to individuals and in group presentations. The Coordinator distributes LIEAP and Energy Share applications throughout the service area. (Jefferson, Broadwater and Lewis & Clark counties) The Coordinator can assist with completing applications; answer questions and distribute energy conservation information and a limited supply of weatherization materials (window kits, CFL light bulbs, door weather stripping, etc.) throughout the service area.
